HUDSON YARDS SUCKS AND I HATE IT: A HATE PAGE
WELL ACTUALLY NOW IM TURNING THIS PAGE INTO A HATE PAGE FOR ARCHITECTURE I DISLIKE. SO ITS NOT JUST HUDSON YARDS UNFORTUNATELY
I feel like I cannot stress enough how much I hate this set of buildings. I think if you were there too you would hate them as well. Because LOOK at this monstrosity...
^ the monstrosity I speak of.
PERSONALLY? If I had the power to make it so that a stadium was going> to be built there instead (WHICH WAS INTENDED) I would make that happen within a nanosecond. And I know you would too if you had to live in the same city as them.
The main reason why everyone hates the development at Hudson Yards is because it feels very very fake, sort of like an airport mixed with an apple store. And normally I LOVE airports so this is a big deal. What it promises is a business hotel, business resturaunts, business parks... Basically a business mini-city where nobody really has to enter or leave unless they're a wealthy businessperson. I think this article puts it very well:
New Yorker - Hudson Yards is the Hotel California of New York.
Yes I am aware that the New Yorker is a very bougie magazine. But TBH this is an article I can really relate to.
HOWEVER! Luckily, you and I are not alone. The development has become so unpopular during the Pandemic that it has essentially become a ghost town: Imagine Dubai inhabited only by the occasional tumbleweed. Many of the businesses in its massive mall (full of things that you can order only online, apparently?? One time I went with my aunt and nothing was really for sale, the stuff there was so designer-y that the whole mall was a storefront display. You had to get it in the mail, and you can't even try it on!) have closed and gone out of business, including the famous Neiman Marcus retail store that generated a LOT of profit for the development's owners. SO ITS BASICALLY... DOOMED TO FAIL??? anyways. I'm bored of complaining about this so yeah. THUS ENDS THE HUDSON YARDS HATE PAGE
GUESS WHOSE BACK BABY!!!!! TODAY ON AUGUST ELEVENTH 2021 IM HATING ON 432 PARK AVENUE
the reason why I hate this building is obvious. it's ugly and nobody uses it. JUST LIKE HUDSON YARDS UNSURPRISINGLY? According to its wikipedia page AROUND HALF OF PEOPLE WHO OWN APARTMENTS... collect them as though they are art pieces instead of places to live. the audacity to buy something essential (that SO many new yorkers need ESPECIALLY after the pandemic) just to have it bothers me to no end. Conspicuous consumption ruins everything :/. New York magazine calls it a fancy prison, because nobody who lives there ("lives") ever leaves because they don't really have to. THere's a resturaunt, a private library, a GOLF TRAINING PLACE?? and more stuff like that. You can't even open the windows easily. Anyways. One day they're gonna have to take down this building (because it wasn't built along NYC architectural guidelines) I will watch and laugh >:) THE END
